Origin Story

Caribbean Venture Collective Co-Founders Mita Carriman and Daniel Smith met as founders in the Techstars Detroit Fall 2024 class.

Daniel, a native of Trinidad now living in the US, is the founder of Keepingly, a platform helping homeowners manage, store, and track important homeownership documents. Mita, a native New Yorker with Caribbean roots from Jamaica and Grenada, is the founder of Adventurely, a marketplace for coworking day passes that blend work & play in hotels, restaurants, cafes and 3rd spaces. Mita became a dual citizen of Grenada in 2019 through descent.

As they navigated opportunities to connect with investors and scale their businesses, they observed a gap in venture support for founders of Caribbean descent. After exploring existing networks, they realized an opportunity to build a new one that fully embodies their vision, expanding the scope to include stakeholders not only with Caribbean ancestry but also those contributing to sectors vital to the Caribbean’s future.

Caribbean Venture Collective was then born, aimed at amplifying startups with a connection to the Caribbean.
